How to Make Moving In and Moving Out Easy?

Congratulations on your new house! This is another check from your bucket list. Having a new home is like having a new baby in the family. You are excited to move in and decorate each corner of it. Adding some colors on the walls, buying new furniture, and arrange it in your new space.

But are you aware that there is a nightmare in moving in and moving out? It is one of the hardest part of having a new house. How are you going to pack your things from the house that you live for more than 5 years?

It has hard to let go of some things that has been with you for years. But to make you’re moving process easy, you need to identify which one needs to stay and need to let go. To help you in making your moving in and moving out easy, here are some steps.

Start with your clothes

Start sorting out your clothes. Divide your clothes from house clothes, uniforms and casual clothes. By doing this, it will be easy for you to identify when unpacking it. You can also put a label on it, use a piece of paper.

Make ups and other girly things

Put some cotton balls in your makeup compact to avoid breaking it. Remember, during transfer we don’t know if an accident will happen. While for your other girly things like combs, hair clips and pony tails, put it in a small box and then seal it. Put a label outside of the box. For example: Box #1 Makeup and girly things.

Figurines

If you are a figurine collector, you might a lot of newspaper or clothes that you are not going to use anymore. Before putting your figurines inside the box, wrapped them first by using a newspaper or clothes, this is to avoid from breaking. After wrapping them, arrange it properly inside the box. You need to make sure that there is no too much pressure inside.

Cover all liquid bottles

If pressure was put on those bottles, it might explode and it will be very messy. You don’t want to happen right? So, wrap all those bottles using a plastic wrap or a packaging tape. You need to make sure that you were able to cover the lid part of the bottle.

Suitcase for heavy equipment

Using suitcase will definitely make your life easy in carrying heavy equipment during transfer. Maximize the feature of your suitcase, don’t just use it with clothes.

Defrost your refrigerator

Don’t forget to defrost your fridge at least 2 days before you move out. By doing this, you are avoiding all kinds of leaks and nasty smell. Ditch all the expired food and milk. This will lessen the weight of your fridge. Don’t forget to wipe any liquid inside the fridge.

Plates and utensils

Plates is one of the fragile things that you need to take care when moving out. There are three options that you choose from in wrapping your plates and utensils. First, wrap your plates using a newspaper and use two pieces of newspaper every plate. Second, you can use your old clothes for wrapping your plates. Lastly, you can also use Styrofoam, this is one of the easiest and cheapest way of wrapping your plates and utensils.

Rubber band and Door Knob

When moving in and moving out, one of the hassle part is being locked out. Here is a hack that you can use to avoid being locked out and it will be easy for you to access the door while carrying heavy boxes. Grab a rubber band, wrap it around on the first side of your door knob, then make sure you cross it over to the doorknob going on the side. In that case the lock is blocked.

Follow military fold

To save a lot of space, roll up your clothes instead of folding it. You can watch a tutorial video in YouTube. Or follow the steps in this photo. By doing the military fold you can put a lot of clothes in one bag or box.

Small bag for the basic needs

Admit it or not, you will not be able to finish unpacking in just one day. It is better to ready a small for your basic needs, like toiletries, clothes and other stuff that you might need while unpacking other stuff. Make sure that you also have a firs-aid kit ready, just in case of any emergency.

Sandwich Bag

No, this is not for your snack. This is for important things like screws and nails that you might need when you move in to place your decors in walls.

Label your box

By labeling your box, it will be easy for you to identify your things during unpacking. And please put it on the side of the box, not on the top.

Towels to slide your furniture

When pushing your cabinets or tables in your new house, put a towel on each stand to avoid ruining the floor. Sometimes there are furniture that has sharp stands and it might scratch your flooring.

Electronics and wires

Before unplugging all the wires in your electronics or appliances, take a photo first so you can remember how it was connected. After doing that, unplug the wire by batch and put it in a sandwich bag and label it. Don’t mix your wires because it will give you a hard time in fixing it.

Donate or Sell

If you are planning to buy new furniture for your new house, then donate or sell your old ones. Try to donate it first with your friends or relatives who help you in moving out. If they decline, then go ahead and sell it. You can do a garage sale in your house. Then, use your income from garage sale to buy new furniture. In that way, it didn’t hurt your savings.

Take photos of your cleaned-out old apartment (if you’re renting)

It is essential to do this because you can get your deposit back. It will also save you from getting a headache from a landlord who will charge you with cleaning and repair when you moved out.

Change your address

It is one of the important that you cannot miss. Remember, you have credit cards, phone lines, magazine subscription, Amazon and mail. You might want to receive them on time in your new address to avoid any inconvenience.

Last grocery trips

Make your last grocery trip at least 2 weeks before your move out date. In that case, it will lessen the food that you need to throw out.

Map out the best way

If you are moving into a different city, it is better to plan it ahead of time. Look for a best route that you can take during your moving out day. This will help you save time in traveling.

Look for the best movers who can help you

Ask recommendations from your friends or read some review about the company before you set an appointment. Remember, they will be carrying your things, so you need to make sure that they can take care of it.
